Ear Keloid Treatment

Preparation Instructions:

1. Wash your hair on the morning of your appointment to keep the area dry for 48 hours post-treatment.
2. Avoid blood-thinning substances (e.g., alcohol, ibuprofen, supplements like Vitamin C or E, and St. John’s Wort) for two days before the procedure to reduce the risk of bleeding.
3. Eat as normal before the treatment to maintain stable blood sugar levels.
4. Plan for a 2-hour visit to ensure sufficient time for the procedure and aftercare instructions.

Procedure Overview:

1. The area will be disinfected, and a local anaesthetic will be administered to numb the ear.
2. Using a specialised electrosurgical device, the keloid will be carefully shaved to remove as much tissue as possible while preserving the natural ear shape.
3. The device minimises bleeding, ensuring a virtually painless experience.
4. A steroid injection is administered immediately after removal, and antibiotic ointment is applied. The wound is then dressed with a plaster.

Post-Treatment Care:

1. A wound care kit and antibiotics are provided to reduce the risk of infection.
2. A follow-up appointment is scheduled four weeks after the procedure.
3. You’ll receive a direct emergency contact number, and our clinic nurse will check in with you within 1–2 days.

During your follow-up, the doctor will examine the wound and initiate the recurrence prevention plan if healing is satisfactory.
