Our Commitment to Advancing Keloid Research and Patient Care

Keloid Research and Support

Keloid Research and Support Team

Keloid is a benign skin condition characterised by the excessive growth of scar tissue, either at the site of an injury or on otherwise healthy skin. Despite its non-cancerous nature, keloid scars can significantly impact patients’ lives, yet research, awareness, and clinical management have historically received little attention.

At The London Keloid Scar Clinic, we recognise both the aesthetic and functional challenges that keloids pose to patients. That’s why we are dedicated to ongoing clinical research into the causes and treatment strategies for this complex condition. Beyond our own efforts, we proudly support global initiatives aimed at advancing the understanding and management of keloid disorder.

We are proud to partner with the Keloid Research Foundation, an organisation dedicated to fostering scientific exploration, educating clinicians, and supporting individuals affected by keloid scars. Through fundraisers, awareness campaigns, and continuous research, the foundation works to bridge the significant research gap surrounding keloid disorder.

The foundation also publishes an open-access online scientific journal, Keloid Research. This platform brings together clinical and laboratory research on keloids from around the world, creating a centralised resource for researchers and clinicians alike.

In addition, the foundation organises the International Keloid Symposium, an annual event that unites experts passionate about keloid research and treatment. The most recent symposium, held in Montpellier, France, from the 7th to 9th of October 2022, welcomed our Medical Director, Dr. Salinda Johnson, as an active participant. This event provided invaluable opportunities for knowledge-sharing, open debate, and the development of evidence-based guidelines for the clinical management of keloid disorder.

As a clinic, we remain committed to raising awareness, supporting patients, and driving forward meaningful advancements in keloid research and treatment. We are always open to collaborations with organisations that share our mission.
