What happens during Keloid removal?

There are several reasons why a keloid scar may occur on your body. However, no matter why they start or where they develop on your body, you don’t have to cope with them simply.

There are a variety of ways that you can treat keloids. However, one of the most permanent and visible is to organise keloid removal.

Keloid On-Ear: Causes and Treatments

What are keloids, and why do they happen?

Keloid is a growth of scar tissue on your body. It can happen due to the infection of a wound or a hereditary condition that causes it to happen. It is more commonplace in those with darker skin tones than those with lighter skin.

Keloids will usually present as either a lump or a nodule, which will have risen more than the wound was initially. These keloids can be firm when you touch them, and there is a good chance that they will be painful or itchy on your skin.

Some keloids are mild, and you may live with them simply, but some can be deemed more severe. To grade them, the clinician will look at their size, whether they hurt, and how firm they are.

Why is surgery the best option for treating keloids?

Whilst there are some treatments for keloids that you can put in place, for many people, the best option is to opt for surgery to remove the keloids.

There are several ways that you can approach this particular issue. One is to try and make sure that the keloid scar is minimised and blends in with the rest of the skin around it.

However, this is not always possible, and in these circumstances, the surgeon will instead remove a large scar. This can be a somewhat tricky procedure and will require careful work to ensure that the scar is not made worse or more visible.

Not only is the treatment itself important in order to give the best results, but you are also going to need to make sure that you follow their guidance and that you look after the area and that you protect it from infection and from any damage.

The main thing to remember about keloids is that you don’t have to live your life just “putting up with them.” There are many things that you can do to make sure that the way they look and feel is reduced and that you can feel proud to be in your own skin.

In order to get the best results from your surgery, you are going to need to speak to an expert and ensure that they explain the procedure and that you fully understand what it is that you need to do.

Always take your time to think about which clinic is going to be the right fit for you and check that they are experts in what they are offering to do for you.
